Dr. Jaya Bishnu Pradhan was born in 1973 in Bandipur 1, Tanahun. He is the third child among five siblings born to Babu Lal Pradhan and Putali Maya Pradhan. Dr. Pradhan currently resides in Tokha Municipality 11, Kathmandu for more than two decades. He has a wife and two sons. Dr Pradhan completed his school education at Pabitra Secondary School located in Bandipur 1, Tanahun. He is graduated in Education with a major in Mathematics from Prithvi Naraya Campus, Pokhara, Kaski.
Dr. Pradhan completed his Master's in Education in 1999, graduating first with distinction and receiving the prestigious Mahendra Bidhya Bhushan (Gold Medal) for his outstanding academic performance. His pursuit of higher education continued with an M.Phil. in Education in 2010 from Tribhuvan University, where he focused his thesis on Ethnomathematics, exploring the mathematical Ideas and practices of Chundara community. In 2019, Dr. Pradhan earned his Doctor of Philosophy in Mathematics Education from the Faculty of Education at Tribhuvan University in the field of Ethnomathematics and Ethnopedagogy.
Dr. Pradhan's teaching career began on August 17, 1999, as a part-time teacher at Mahendra Ratna Campus. He served in this capacity until April 26, 2008, when he transitioned to the role of Teaching Assistant. He held this position until November 22, 2011. On November 23, 2011, Dr. Pradhan was appointed Assistant Professor at Mahendra Ratna Campus, a position he holds to this day.
Dr. Pradhan has published numerous papers in national and international prestigious journals related to his research areas. He has published two book chapters. His first book chapter, Mathematical Ideas in Chundara Culture: Unfolding a Nepalese Teaching and Learning System, was published in 2017 in the book Ethnomathematics and its Diverse Approaches for Mathematics Education edited by M. Rosa, L. Shirley, M. E. Gavarrete and W. V. Alangui, and his second book chapter, "Ethnomathematics in Nepal: Research and Future Perspectives," was published in 2023 in the book Ubiratan D’Ambrosio and Mathematics Education: Trajectory, Legacy, and Future edited by Marcelo C. Borba and Daniel Clark Orey. Both books were published by Springer, Cham, Switzerland. Dr Pradhan is an author and co-authors of dozens of books for various educational levels. His books for the different disciplines of Council for Technical Education and Vocational Training are highly acknowledged by the readers.
